Laboratory rules:
– Nothing is as easy as it looks
– Everything takes longer than you think
– In any scientific endeavour, anything that can go wrong will go wrong
– If several things can go wrong, the one that will cause most damage accurs
– If nothing can go wrong, it will anyway
– If you circumvent all possible ways you think a procedure can go wrong, then a new one – unprepared for – will promptly develop
– Left to themselves, things go from bad to worse
– If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something
– Nature always sides with the hidden flaw
– It is impossible to make a thing foolproof, because fools are so ingenious
– And the most important law of thermodynamics: Things get worse under pressure!
